The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has condemned the decision by America declaring Jerusalem as the new capital city for Israel, saying it is an act of aggression. “We the Muslims of Uganda strongly condemn the recent Zionist Declaration of Jerusalem to be the capital city of Israel,” Sheikh Mubaje said at a press conference at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council headquarters in Old Kampala on Tuesday.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the United States President, Donald Trump endorsing the proposal and subsequent transfer of the U.S. Embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem. Sheikh Mubaje was particularly concerned by the politicization and breach of a Holy city that is sacred to different religions including Christianity.
“Realizing and respecting the position of both the UN General Assembly and the Security Council that had repeatedly declared such activities to be contrary to International law, we Muslims in accordance with Islamic teachings consider Aqsa Mosque (in Jerusalem) as one of the earliest and most noteworthy places of worshipping Allah” the Mufti stated.
According to Islamic teachings, Prophet Muhammad PBUH transcended to heavens from Al Aqsa in the miraculous Night Journey (Mi’raj). The Prophet led prayers towards Al Aqsa in Jerusalem until the 17th month after his immigration, when Allah directed him to turn towards the Holy Kaaba in Makkah during prayers.
The Mufti called upon the international community and all peace loving people to resist this illegal move, which he said may lead to bloodshed and disrespect of values imbedded in tolerance and peaceful co-existence.
He also called upon the entire Muslim, Arab world and other governments to unite and stand firm in denouncing and condemning this act of aggression perpetrated by Israel with support from the U.S. government.
