The Zimbabwe’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) says its Party President Morgan Tsvangirai, is in stable condition.
MDC was reacting sharply to media reports that circulated earlier, saying that Mr. Tsvangirai was flown to South Africa while in critical condition as he was battling for his life.
“Mr. Tsvangirai travelled to South African for a routine medical procedure and he is more worried about the plight of Zimbabweans than his own condition,” stated part of the release.
Zimbabweans are currently on an on-going nationwide exercise to acquire birth certificates and national registration documents that will enable them to exercise their right to vote next year.
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, who turns 93 in February, was recently endorsed as the ruling party’s candidate in a national election scheduled for 2018.
The ruling ZANU-PF party announced its support in the southeast town of Masvingo, where the party’s youth wing even proposed that Mr. Mugabe should rule for life with broad powers.
