Ten killed in January

Kampala-Uganda-Unidentified assassins have killed 10 people in the central Uganda district of Mityana in the last one month. The victims include six women, three men and a one and half-year-old baby.

According to Uganda Police Force, the suspects were either killed by strangulation or being hit with a blunt object on the head. Their bodies were recovered from villages in Myanzi, Bikers, Maanyi, Kikandwa sub counties and Ssekanyonyi town Council.

The Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, Norbert Ochom, says preliminary police investigations shows that the bodies of the victims were transported from the crime scene and dumped far away.

“The assailants could be hiring vehicles to transport and dispose of the bodies of their victims,” he said.

He however, says they are yet to find any clues on the assailants and also establish whether or not the killings are connected. However, just like the Katabi and Nansana killings in Wakiso district, Police says some of the women could be victims of the crime of Passion.

Unlike the Wakiso killings, there hasn’t been evidence showing that the women were sexually abused before they were killed. Ochom says they have intensified community policing all over the region to stem the killings.

“We are involving all the local leaders in sensitizing the different communities on security issues, mob justice, on land related crimes and domestic violence because these are some of the issues that cause problems if ignored. That is why we are concentrating on these and many other causes of crime,” Ochom said.
