The Kenya Revenue Authority and other government agencies have embarked on the destruction of sub standard goods valued at Ksh 250 million.
The exercise that was witnessed by industrialization permanent secretary Chris Kiptur, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Chief Operation Manager at the port Joseph Kaguru and Kenya Bureau of Standard Managing Director Charles Ongwae was conducted at the Mombasa Cement Company limited in Mombasa county.
The ten containers destroyed are valued at Ksh 15 million are part of 163 containers planned for destruction by the government agencies this week.
According to Kenya Bureau of Standard Managing Director Charles Ongwae the sub standard goods include used tires, rice and spaghetti.
The consignment got seized at the port of Mombasa following scanning and 100 percent verification processes.
On the other hand, he said all goods not cleared at the country of origin will now be subjected for 100 per cent verification and if found to be sub standard will be condemned.
