The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced the date on which women will be allowed to start driving in the Kingdom.
A government statement said that June, 24 would be the day on which the decades-long ban on women driving would finally be lifted.
The decision – announced last year – is one of the most headline-grabbing moves in the reform programme advocated by the Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman. Driving schools have been set up in a number of Saudi Arabian cities in preparation for women to take to the wheel.
On the other hand, this transformation has sent a chilling effect to some foreigners who are mostly working as drivers. Some of them, now feel their jobs are under threat as women are now taking over their wheels.
