At least 12 people have died on the spot while two others are nursing serious injuries after they were involved in a road accident involving a shuttle and a truck at Salgaa on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
The Sunday morning incident that occurred at around 3 am involved a Great Rift Shuttle and a Mercedes-Benz Actros.
“All the 11 passengers and the driver of the shuttle died on the spot,” Mr Hassan Barua Nakuru police commandant said.
Nakuru police Boss said the accident happened after the matatu driver lost control after hitting a cow, before colliding head on with the truck.
The truck driver and his turn boy suffered serious injuries and were taken to Nakuru Level Five Hospital for specialized treatment.
At the scene of the horrible accident, parts of the shuttle including seats were scattered besides the road as the traffic officers tried to clear the mess.
The carcass of the cow which is said to have caused the accident lied about 20meters from where it was hit while crossing the road.
Witnesses who arrived at the scene immediately the accident occurred said they could not help since there were no hospitals around saying that the nearest hospital was in Nakuru town.
The bodies have been taken to the Nakuru Level five mortuary.
