Kenya Power has said that the recent power outages experienced in most parts of the Kenya has been caused by a power system disturbance.
In a statement to newsrooms, the utility firm’s Network Management General Manager Engineer Daniel Tare says its engineers are battling to identify the fault and restore power supply as quickly as possible.
Sources say the stage disrupted flight operations in Mombasa, Eldoret and even Kisumu, with passengers complaining of delays, while some businesses started to using diesel and petrol powered generators for alternative power.
In an ironic twist, neighbouring Uganda has also suffered a similar fate, with its electricity distributor, Umeme Limited, assuring customers that their teams are working to restore supply.
The hitch comes barely a day after the Energy Ministry held a press conference to clear the air on a billing system, that had led to abnormal electricity charges to Kenyan consumers.
