Uganda Police are hunting for one of their own accused of shooting to death two people and injuring three others at Busega Pub in the central Uganda town of Mubende in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. Police Spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, says Police Constable Sam Mutungi allegedly opened fire at people in the pub.
He identifies the deceased as 23-year-old Nectaria Kawagga, a resident of Bukuya and Yafesi Balode, a UPDF soldier stationed at Lukwango camp in Kitumbi Sub County in Mubende district. The injured are Emmanuel Kusiima, a boda boda rider, Joseph Mbazira and Sunday Ssentongo.
Kayima says Emmanuel Kusiima is still admitted at Mubende hospital while Mbazira and Ssentongo are out of danger. He says the deceased’s bodies are lying at Kasanda health center for postmortem.
Kayima, who regrets the incident as criminal, says they have launched a manhunt for the killer constable who fled with his gun. “The hunt for him is on and soon, he will be apprehended to answer for this grave offense he allegedly committed,” he said.
He notes that, “The Police in Mubende led by the Regional Police Commander have already started investigations.” Kayima expresses his condolences to the families of the bereaved families because of the incident.
“We promise to apprehend the officer and hold him to account. Whoever had a hand in these unfortunate incidents, in any part from the officer mentioned above will be held to account as well,” reads Kayima’s statement.
