The announcement was made by Kenyan Chief Kadhi Shariff Ahmed Muhdhar at around 6.37 pm yesterday evening at Wakf Commission Office in Mombasa Island after the crescent moon was cited in Mombasa county and other parts of Africa and middle east.
The Chief Kadhi confirmed that the moon was cited by Muslim faithful in various parts of Mombasa and declared that the Muslim community will start observing the holy month of Ramadhan on Thursday.
On the other hand, he appealed to the Muslim community to avoid evil deeds and live according to the teachings of Islam by helping the needy, saying that the fasting period was a special moment in the life of Muslims to draw closer to the Creator.
He also urged Muslims to make use of the Holy month of Ramadhan by helping flood victims across the country.
At the same time, he also challenged the police to ensure security during the Holy month of Ramadhan.
