More Details Emerge on Arrest of Museveni’s Critic

Social media critic, Frank Gashumba who is in trouble for impersonation.

Uganda, Kampala-Fresh details have emerged over the arrest of social media critic, Frank Gashumba and his brother, Innocent Kasumba alias Simon Mutabazi.

The Defense Ministry Deputy Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki, says the arrest of the duo followed a whistle blowers report to the Defense Ministry Permanent Secretary about their plan to fleece an investor pretending to be Defense Ministry officials.

Lt. Col. Akiiki explains that the duo invited investors to Golden Tulip Hotel in Nakasero in Kampala for a meeting through their company Flagship group claiming to have been contacted by the Defense Ministry to supply the army hundreds of Military Trucks.

Akiiki explains that following the tip off, operatives from the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce-JATT picked up Nasser Mukungu, an accomplice to Kasumba who fled from the hotel.  He says they opened up a case file against the group vide CPS KLA CRB1456/2017 and  Nasser Mukungu was granted police bond as the search for Kasumba continued.

He however, says Kasumba was finally picked up on October 29th, 2017 and search conducted on his residency, which yielded several items including more than 20 stamps including one from the Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister, multiple identification documents and two passports belonging to the suspects with varying names.

They also recovered a passport NO B0892687 belonging to Frank Gashumba in the names of Ssentogo Frank Disans.

“As luck would have it, on October 29, 2017 Gashumba also turned up at the Chieftainance of Military Intelligence-CMI with his lawyer friend Godfrey Nsamba to follow up his brother and was arrested to explain the reason and source of multiple identification documents under his name, his relationship and role in Flagship group under, which the investor was to be defrauded,” Akiiki said in a statement.

Adding that, “Also of late a number of people had reported Frank Gashumba for trying to blackmail them purporting to be carrying out investigations about their property on behalf of the Inspectorate of Government.”

He says another search conducted at Gashumba’s office yielded a second passport no B0958085 in the of Gashumba Franco Malimungu,several other stamps and documents authored in the names of the  Defense Ministry and Agriculture Fisheries and Animal Industry Ministry.

“Some of the companies used by the group to fleece foreigners and Ugandans in Defense Ministry related deals include Flagship group and Dynamos Sacco Ltd,” he said. Accoring to Akiiki, Gashumba works closely with some lawyers in smarter ways to cover his evil ways

According to documents recovered, the groups have been targeting mainly South Sudanese government departments and Ministries. He says joint investigations on Frank Gashumba and Innocent Kasumba are ongoing and they will be produced in court to answer the charges. The suspects are currently held at the Special Investigations Unit in Kireka.
