Kenya’s night travel ban to be lifted

Kenya night travel ban

The Kenyan government is expected to selectively lift the ban on night travel by Public Service Vehicles from mid next month.

Speaking at Parliament Buildings where he appeared before the Parliamentary Transport Committee, Transport Principal Secretary Paul Maringa however said PSV Saccos must first fulfill certain conditions before the ban is lifted.

This comes a month after the National Transport and Safety Authority suspended night travel for long distance PSVs, following several road accidents that have claimed more than 100 lives during the December holiday.

On his part, Infrastructure Permanent Secretary John Musonik said the road accidents along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway are usually caused by careless driving, adding that the Ministry will put up barriers from the end of March to curb the accidents.
