Kenya’s Interior Minister Bans Demos in Nairobi

Slapping ban on demos

Kenya, Nairobi-The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i has banned demonstrations in Nairobi’s Central Business District. Matiang’i announced the ban on the demonstrations at a press briefing in Nairobi on Thursday morning..

“The Government is fully committed to ensuring the security of all Kenyans, their livelihoods and business through the election period and beyond,” Matiang’i said in a message on his official tweeter handle.

The ban follows violent demonstrations by supporters of the National Super Alliance(NASA) seeking to compel government to undertake electoral reforms ahead of the fresh presidential elections.

On Tuesday, NASA coalition leaders led by Raila Odinga called on their supporters to take to the streets to compel government to disband the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) and undertake electoral reforms.
