Kenyan police hacked by locals

A police officer attached to Thidhna police post in Suna East Sub County in Migori has been hacked to death by one of the locals in unclear circumstances.

The wife of the suspect identified as Lucas Adongo also sustained injuries and has been rushed to Migori level four hospitals for treatment.

Migori county police boss Joseph Nthenge confirmed the incident, however he said they are still trying to establish what transpired before the police officer was murdered by the locals.

He said they have launched investigation into the murder even though the suspect is reported to have escaped to the neighboring county Transmara.

Area chief Philip Kisiagro said the suspect who stays in adjacent rental house with that of the deceased police officer was beating the wife when the officer whose name is still concealed intervened, and that is when the suspect turned against the police officer and hacked him to death before taking his fire arm and shot severally on the air and then fled.

In another instance, a student at at Meru Science and Technology University has been shot dead by police during protests by the students at the institution.

The students held protests in a bid to have Vice Chancellor Japhet Magambo removed from the institution alleging that he is involved in misappropriation of funds.

The students were also protesting against high fees charged by the University .

The student shot dead by police known as Evans Njoroge is said to be leader of the students and has been leading them during the protests for several weeks.

The students have now blocked Meru-Maua road to protest the murder of their colleague.
