Kenyan lawyers pursue Moi Day Celebration Debate

Moi Day celebrations

Some Kenyan lawyers have waded into the Moi Day celebrations debate, supporting a decision by High Court judge George Odunga directing that the day be observed as a public holiday.

Lawyer Steve Ogolla says skipping the day is illegal, adding that the judge made a practical decision on legal grounds.

In his ruling, Justice Odunga says the decision to scrap Moi Day, marked on the 10th of October, was illegal and in contravention of the Public Holidays Act.

The orders were issued after a Kenyan moved to court to challenge the decision to stop observing the day as a public holiday.
