Kenyan Court Orders IEBC to Include Aukot on Ballot

Ekuru Aukot

Kenya, Nairobi-Justice John Mativo has directed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries-IEBC to include Ekuru Aukot in the re-run of the Kenya’s presidential elections. Justice Mativo delivered the ruling this morning, saying “I find nothing to bar the petitioner from contesting the fresh election.”

He explained that Aukot was an interested party in the petition challenging the victory of president, Uhuru Kenyatta. Justice Mativo directed the IEBC to amend the gazette notice on presidential candidates to include Aukot.

The judgment stems from an application by Aukot to be included in the fresh polls, saying he has a direct, legitimate and inalienable constitutional right to participate in the fresh presidential election since he was a contender in the nullified polls.

The judgment means, Uhuru Kenyatta may still have a challenger for the October 26th polls following the withdrawal of his main challenger, Raila Amolo Odinga.
