A section of coast parliamentarians led by Mombasa county Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi have formed a special committee comprising of professionals and politicians that will push for the coast region to secede.
However the leaders say they will conduct a series of meeting with various stakeholders in the region to ensure all residents are fully involved in the matter.
According to Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho the new committee will be chaired by Kilifi north Mp Owen Baya.
Other committee members will include Mvita Mp Abdulswamad Nassir, Mombasa senator Mohammed Faki,and his Kilifi counterpart Steward Madzayo.
Addressing a press conference at Mombasa county Joho’s office the leaders who included Mps Paul Katana ,Kaloleni,Ali Mbogo ,Kisauni ,Omar Mwinyi,Changamwe ,Mishi Mboko ,Likoni Owen Baya Kilifi north among others maintained that they said will use legal ways to achieve their goal.
The leaders claimed that coast region has been marginalized by various regimes since independence and time has come to cut link with Kenyan government.
On the other hand,Mombasa republican council spokesman Rashid Mraja opposed secession agenda being pushed or advocated by a section of coastal politicians, saying most of them were against the idea when they introduced it in the region.
He dismissed them saying most of them failed to bail them out when they were arrested and taken to court ,adding that they are only playing politics for personal interests.
