Fire Guts Workshops in Mbale, Uganda

Fire in Mbale town

Fire has gutted several workshops in the Eastern Uganda town of Mbale. The incident occurred in Buyonjo cell, Nkoma Ward, adjacent to the Islamic University in Uganda main campus. Hassan Okwir, one of the first responders says the fire started from one of the workshops.

The fire spread fast to a timber workshop, grinding mill, scrap store and some local drinking houses.

“One of the welders had wired his workshop to protect his materials from thieves,” he said.

According to Hassan, the fire spread fast to a timber workshop, grinding mill, scrap store and some local drinking houses. He says a team from the fire department rushed to try and put out the fire but the damage was already done. The fire is said to have destroyed several machines used in the workshops.
